CONSTRUCTION GUIDES

Prepare better. Handover cleaner.

Practical project questions concerning site cleaning, handover and specialised requests.

Prepare your project, step by step

Four practical guides help you agree the timing, define the scope and prepare a clean handover.

Prepare for final construction cleaning: from site condition to handover

Prepare final construction cleaning by defining finished areas, sensitive materials, outstanding work and access. Includes an enquiry checklist.

Planning construction cleaning, from work stages to handover

The right cleaning stage depends on progress on site. Use these checklists for your enquiry and coordination with the site manager. The actual scope is agreed for your property.

1. Choose the right cleaning stage

  • Rough cleaning: collect loose material and packaging remnants in released areas and make work areas accessible. Off-site removal and disposal are included only when explicitly agreed.
  • Interim cleaning: clean between dusty trades or completed construction sections. Further sanding or drilling can require another cleaning visit.
  • Fine and final cleaning: after the agreed construction work is complete, clean surfaces for inspection, handover or use. Define remaining trade work and any repeat cleaning in advance.

2. Prepare the site for cleaning

  • Name a site contact, released rooms and safe access routes. Clarify keys, lifts, unloading, water, power and permitted working hours.
  • Mark fresh coatings, curing times and restricted areas. Identify leftover materials and personal items in advance; appearance alone is not a reason to dispose of anything.
  • When other trades are still working, protect cleaned areas and agree access routes. Plan the sequence to limit recontamination and leave time before handover.

3. Describe surfaces and residues

  • Identify flooring, natural stone, timber, glass, coatings and fittings as accurately as possible. Provide manufacturer care instructions and details of existing damage before work starts.
  • Cement, paint, silicone and adhesive residues need separate assessment. No single product is suitable for every surface; agree methods and, where needed, a test area first.
  • Suspected hazardous substances, mould, unknown dust and unprotected work at height are outside an ordinary cleaning scope. Inform the site manager; risks and specialist qualifications must be assessed first.

4. Compare quotations by scope

  • Floor area alone is not enough. Construction stage, residues, floor types, glazing, height, access and the requested date all affect the work required.
  • Check which rooms, surfaces and tasks are included. Explicitly include or exclude glazing, external areas, difficult access, waste disposal and repeat cleaning.
  • Photos and plans can support an assessment but may not replace a site visit. Agree any extra work or changed site conditions before proceeding.

5. Make the handover check clear

  • Walk through rooms and agreed surfaces against the scope of work. Good lighting and accessible inspection areas make the check easier.
  • Record outstanding items with their location and the clarification needed. Distinguish existing damage, unfinished trade work and new dirt from cleaning tasks.
  • A cleaning inspection does not replace technical construction acceptance. Agree later access by other trades and any further cleaning appointment.
